About Five Card Omaha (PLO-5)
Five Card Omaha stands out from standard PLO by the sheer number of starting hand combinations it creates. With five hole cards instead of four, the strategic depth increases dramatically — making it one of the most complex and rewarding poker variants available.

How PLO-5 Works
The core rules align closely with Four Card Omaha. Players receive five hole cards, go through four betting rounds, and must use exactly two pocket cards combined with three community cards to form the best hand.
At showdown — after the final betting round on the river — players reveal their hands in order determined by previous action. The strongest hand wins the pot.
Key Strategy Tips
- The extra hole card exponentially expands possibilities — making real-time analysis significantly harder than in PLO.
- Many players overestimate the strength of their starting hands. Strong draws do not guarantee strong finishes.
- Bluffing is less effective in PLO-5 than in Hold’em — the abundance of possible combinations makes opponents harder to fold.
- Aces preflop do not guarantee postflop dominance — evaluate board texture carefully on every street.
- New players should build fundamentals in Four Card Omaha before moving to PLO-5.
- Start at low stakes to learn the dynamics before moving up in buy-ins.
